What are injectables...

Injectables are minimally invasive techniques for men and women looking to make subtle changes to the face. Toxins are used to reduce wrinkles formed by muscles of facial expression, most commonly in the forehead, brows, and around the eyes. Fillers are used to increase volume in targeted areas of the face, commonly the folds around the mouth, lips, and cheeks, though other areas such as the temples and chin may be injected as well. Fillers can be used to restore lost volume or enhance existing volume.

Here's how it works with toxins...

Neurotoxins, trade names Botox®, Dysport ®, and Jeuveau, are injected in small doses into specific muscles to temporarily stop movement. Common areas are the muscles between and above the eyebrows, the muscles of the forehead, and the muscles around the eyes. It can also be used in small doses in the muscles around the mouth. The procedure is very quick (a few minutes) and the results are visible in a few days and will be fully active at two weeks. The reduction in motion will last for three months, though some report improvement in the wrinkles and creases treated longer than that.

Here's how it works with fillers...

Fillers, with trade names such as Restylane®, JUVÉDERM®, Sculptra®, Radiesse ®, and Belotero ®, are injected in specific areas of the face to replace lost volume or enhance existing volume. Areas that can be treated include the folds around the mouth, the lips, the cheeks, the tear troughs, the chin, the temple, and some acne scars. Results are seen immediately, although bruising and swelling can occur and take time to resolve. The effects can last anywhere from six months to two years, depending on the product and where the product is placed. Continued treatments will be required to maintain the result.

The procedures take little time to perform and typically have little associated downtime. Even subtle changes can make a big difference in how you look.

The downside to injectables...

Though most people who undergo these procedures do well, some may have bruising which can last from days to weeks. Some patients may experience a lid droop after Botox® which is usually temporary but can look unsettling. Because the fillers and toxins are temporary procedures, they need to be repeated to maintain the result. Some patients who desire fillers and toxins may be better candidates for surgery. Their improvement may be limited if this is the case.
